David got his start in journalism at Western Washington University where he produced a feature length documentary on the history of an industrial site in downtown Bellingham, WA. After moving back to Seattle he wrote, and produced video for The Capitol Hill Blog - documenting every day life, city politics and urban development in the fast changing neighborhood. In 2009 he independently produced a short documentary “Hope Art,” examining the surge of visual arts that sprang up around the candidacy and election of Barack Obama in 2008. He would go on to produce feature pieces for the likes of KCTS9, The Seattle Channel, National Journal and the The National Science Foundation, and work freelance assignments for international news networks like AFP and Reuters. David played a major part is AFP’s coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic throughout 2020. He also started a news website Urban Bremerton - covering urban development topics in Bremerton, WA.
